Easy Affiliate Marketing – 5 Easy Steps!

If you ever saw one of those “plans” or “programs” called something like “Affiliate Marketing Riches” or “Make Millions On Squidoo” you’ll feel right at home here.

Did you ever buy one? I have. Let me ask you if you ever made any money after buying one of these? I have.

But mostly I didn’t.

It’s was because at first I was too new to do anything they told me to do.

The first one I bought was called something like “Instant Wealth Overnight – Free Websight!” They took my initial money and then I received my first instruction.

They told me to go get Hosting at a certain place so that my FREE website was now plus the 0 in hosting fees/domain name for a year.

That WAS a pretty good deal for hosting and a domain name for a year but I had NO IDEA what to do with it!

After a few days I gave up and asked for my money back!

I lost the domain name and the money for that AND the original company never gave me my back and went out of business. That was my introduction to Internet Marketing.

I moved on, undisappointed, and eventually learned the “secrets” to affiliate marketing and guess what I discovered? There are no secrets! There is just the stuff you don’t know yet!

So, after that story, I am going to give you a hyper-simplified plan for successful internet marketing that you can do AND it won’t cost you over bucks – EVER! If that.

Not only that, but you will likely see some money out of this soon, and, even if you don’t, you can start all over, as many times as you need to, to get it right, and you WON”T HAVE to pay any more money.

How do I know? I did it! More than once.

So here is the plan.

One – Find a good product on Clickbank. Make a list of the top 3 sellers in each category – pick from that. Note, avoid the Internet Marketing categories at first. Most of your customers will know more about internet marketing than you do if you are just getting started.

Two – Get a FREE Squidoo site. They call them “lenses.”

Three – Pick a FREE Domain Name.

Note: In the example below I placed a “;” where “:” should be in the URL so that I wouldn’t be violating the rules of article marketing. These are just for examples and I just made them up! However, affiliate marketers minds run in tight circles and some of the example url’s turned out to be real!

If you, in step one, picked a product like “Make Your Own Solar Panels For FREE” pick a domain name like http;//www.squidoo.com/make-your-own-solar-panels. If that is taken try http;//www.squidoo.com/makeyourownsolarpanels or http;//www.squidoo.com/make_your_own_solar_panels or http;//www.squidoo.com/make-your-own-solar-panelsHQ

Four – Now populate your site (lens) will all things “make your own solar panels” related info. Do your best. Simple works.

Sometimes the best tool is simple. Witness the hammer.

Make sure to put your affiliate links in the copy. When people click on the links a certain amount of them will buy!

Five – Start driving traffic to your lens. No traffic equals no sales. If you’d like to learn all about some highly effective traffic methods for Squidoo read this article and visit it’s links.

Affiliate marketing boils down to simple formula that any one can understand and that is this… Offer + Traffic = Sales!

The Squidoo site is where you put your offer. It’s also where you put “content” to attract search engines and build credibility.

And traffic? Ah…the traffic. It’s the “key.” If you have a decent offer page, all you need is traffic.

But…not just ANY old traffic! What YOU are looking for is traffic that is interested in making their own solar panels. This traffic is often called “targeted traffic.” Those are the ones you want. And you can get them!

For those traffic generation methods we need a little more space than this one article will allow. But for now, bear in mind, that I consider article marketing to be the best method of achieving two things.

That would be actual traffic to the site AND Google rankings for your keywords when used as resource box text links to your site. One way links at that!

My First Year As A Newbie Internet Marketer

2009 has been a long hard year, but I’ve had a pretty good internet marketing education. I’ve made a bunch of mistakes, but learning each time I make one. Maybe you’ve had similar experiences and can relate to mine. Anyway, now it’s time for me to build on that education and become a serious online marketer and start earning a living.

1. Starting with an ending.

At the beginning of 2009 I was involved with a program which was supposed to make me all kinds of money. My job was to go to free classified ads on the internet like Craig’s List, and others, and respond to ads for internet marketing programs with a form letter, which basically said that classified ads don’t work, so sign up with my program, and you’ll get rich. I had been doing this for several months, and by January, when I had not yet made a dime, I realized that the way the program was set up, if it did bring in any customers, I was not going to see them. In other words I was being scammed and anyone who signed up would be scammed too. When I woke up to the scam, I pulled the plug, and started looking for an internet marketing niche where I might make some money.

2. Pushing on to “Push Traffic”.

In late January I received a call from John Denton representing an internet marketing company, Push Traffic. I was, of course, given the usual spiel that they would coach me to be an internet marketer so that I could give them a great testimonial about how good they were. They sold me and I bit the bullet, got out my credit card and signed up. It was interesting that in the discussion, I was asked if I was ready to be coached three or four times a week for a couple of hours at a time. Believe me, I was ready!

As it turned out, the coaching was for one hour a week. On top of that my first coach was frequently sick or not available so that I probably had only two or three coaching sessions the first two months. Even with that I got my website up and running. I was promoting (and still am) three affiliate programs. I, also, set up a pay per click campaign with Google to advertise my site. I should also mention that I had a lot of help from my son, who among his many artistic talents, designs websites. He set up the website template and designed a logo and “look” for my site. Without this help, I probably would have never got my website up and running.

After a couple of months Push Traffic realized that my coaching wasn’t working, and called me one day to set up a new coach. The new coach was much better from every point of view. He helped me set up a Word Press Blog with good plug-ins to enhance its capabilities and helped me improve my pay per click ad campaigns. Then one day this coach disappeared. I was given another coach, but he lasted only a couple of weeks, then he disappeared. It was though Push Traffic decided that I was done or maybe that by then I knew all they had to teach me. I later contacted them to ask for more assistance, and they promised more support, but it never happened. The important thing to note that even with the progress I had made, I was not getting much traffic, and no conversions. I obviously, did not send them a testimonial.

3. Getting in cahoots with Shawn Casey.

In the meantime I received a call from one of Shawn Casey’s folks selling his coaching program. Of course, the story was the same. They really only wanted a good testimonial. I told them about my Push Traffic experience, but they said that their program was much better and they certainly would make me into a top internet marketer. Since I felt I really needed more help, and with their promises ringing in my ear, I got out my credit card again, and signed up.

I must admit that Shawn Casey’s program is a much better organized program than Push Traffic’s and provided considerably more assistance. You start with a series of webinars to get you going, which are well put together. You can take two or three of these a week so within a couple of weeks you should have a blog up and can begin to market with it. After maybe a month of taking in these webinars I was started on a coaching program. This program consisted of six or eight 45 minute coaching sessions. I must admit that I really liked my coach. We worked on improving my Word Press Blog, and my postings. He helped me add functionality to the blog and helped me with technical problems associated with setting up an ebook I had prepared to sell for downloading by my eventual customers.

I am still in Shawn Casey’s program although no more coaching is available. I can still take advantage of the webinars and there are other facilities I can use. However, since I am still not making any money, I recently asked for a bit more assistance. Their response was that what I needed was technical help for my website, which they would be glad to give to me for an additional fee. I declined. I have not offered Shawn Casey a testimonial either.

3. Can you Trump this?

Last July I received an email from someone who was working with Donald Trump’s new internet marketing program. After talking to him I was convinced that Donald Trump would make his internet marketing program work. He had developed an extensive advertising plan which included interviews with Oprah and a dozen of other initiatives that made it seem like it would be a real winner. So I climbed on board, set up a bunch of Twitter Accounts to attract sign ups, and my email program to sell the Donald’s MLM deal and was off and running. Three months later I was still running, but no one was jumping on my band wagon. I must have sent out thousands of emails to my nine Twitter accounts, and never had a response. I don’t know how successful Trump’s program has been, but from my point of view it was a complete bust.

4. Getting Social.

My latest endeavor is getting serious about Twitter. I got into it with the Trump deal, but now I’ve begun to work it. I not only have automated messages going out, but spend some time tweeting with real messages. I am still optimistic that it will get me some place. But I do find that it seems like every one wants you to buy their products, but are not interested in looking at yours. We’ll see if this changes as my followers grow in number.

As you can imagine, I have just related the main events. Along the way I have bought ebooks, and other programs, which have always promised the moon, but not delivered. Some of it is good stuff. Some of it not so good. I have written twenty or thirty articles which are up on eZines, Articlesbase, Goarticles and Squidoo as well as posted on Squidoo and my blog.

This year has taught me that it is a tough market. Probably, it is easier to sell on eBay or promote Amazon products than it is to sell online money making systems and ideas. But I will continue to develop my business. I am looking forward to next year as the year in which I break into the internet market.
